Best of luck Moonie.

I was inspired to read this thread based on how angry I am at my boss today.

I feel it all comes down to respect. He's been in his business so long, he's forgotten what it's all about. He concentrates too much on sales and not enough on appreciating the animals. He's only looking for money, and that makes him seem like Scrooge. I hate it. And I feel like he treats me like I'm 2' tall, he cant respect that I'm 16 and still a KID and that I have parties like Sweet 16's to go to, that I shouldn't be missing out on because of work. He needs to respect that my family goes on vacation during breaks, and I'm not going to just stay home and work. I get so much negative reinforcement from him that I just end up getting upset.

This is normal for a day at work:

Saturday morning, I come in. I'm the only fish person there. It's my responsiblity to do the stiff check or whatever, and pull out all the dead fish.

He comes in awhile later.

He would never say "oh, the tanks look good, nice job"

But, he WOULD stand next to a tank, WITNESS a fish die, and then come to me and say, "Why'd you miss this fish. Why didn't you get this one."

End of story. : @

Regardless...I've been upset with him for awhile, and went on an interview at another pet store last weekend, one that a friend of mine switched to from our current store. He likes it so much more, for multiple reasons. (Better pay, better environment, better coworkers, better atmosphere really.) They're relatively new and their fish section isn't very well developed yet, but they're making a big effort and it does look nice. They dont have much for saltwater, but that's where I come in. He asked to meet me because my friend talked a lot about me, and said how interested I was in marine life, and that I was a reef geek.

In a nutshell, I'm starting there in January. It's my responsibility to set up the entire fish and reef section. Well, mostly. I'm picking all the products for us to to sell, making starter kits and packages and whatnot. I'll be picking out all the display tanks for us to set up, and picking out the fish we order in weekly.

I'm very excited. This will be a lot of work, but I'm looking forward to it.

Sorry to steal this thread Moonie. Just needed to share.

Clowny you ROCK. You go gurl.... don't be second best for anyone. If their budget doesn't allow it then your dignity doesn't either. They can get what the pay for... the 2nd best candidate.

Moondawg sorry you had a yucky situation. Offers bunch of flowers... (they aren't girly ones, they have chockies hidden in amongst the petals)

Tell me about it Moondog. I just applied for a job that was for Work flow manager, and they came back and told me that I was too young and they were willing to offer Deputy manager. After arguing with me for like what seemed hours, the woman finally came to the point. The salary I had asked for would fit in their deputy manager bracket and she did not want to pay me more. *rolls eyes*

I turned her down promptly and told her, I am sure you have many more people lined up for this position, please pick your second best choice.

She told me to re-consider it, I said, i dont want to waste your time or mine. I dont want a Deputy manager bla.. bla.. bla.. job. ]:|

Go "Postal".

Failing that give IBM a call, they have 5000 IT vacancies at the moment. They tend not to fire people out of hand too often.

good luck with the job hunting

actually, the "interview" was a joke  the guy ripped apart my resume -- the same resume that got me *three* offers last month ] -- and told me he wanted to place me in "helpdesk" or "pc tech" even after i told him i am beyond those positions at my current skill set. he almost argued with me about it! then he asked me if i know how to troubleshoot hardware, just totally disregarding my degree in computer science and the A+ certification that says that yes, even without the degree, i know a few things about hardware... ]:|

on thursday i was laid off from my job that i've had for about 7 weeks. when they hired me they told me that i would be able to move up quickly the more responsibility i took on. the way they do business is that i was supposed to have a list of clients that i took care of their IT infrastructure and such. they were supposed to assign me clients but that never happened. then last week they redid everyone's schedule and still gave me nothing. when i asked about it, the owner of the company said that because they lost a couple clients that there wasn't any work to give me, so they had to let me go. ok, that part was upsetting, but the part that has me really really livid right now is that in today's paper (3 days after i was laid off) THEY PLACED AN AD IN THE PAPER FOR MY POSITION!!!! ]:| ]:| ]:| ]:| ]:| they would have had to place the ad the next day for it to be in the paper that quickly, unless they had it planned from the start. but either way it makes me wonder what the real reason was that they let me go. and it still doesn't change the fact that i have to look for another job again ]:|

actually, at the insistence of someone on another board i read, i applied for this job which is way better than what i had before. i applied for this job on saturday and they *really* want me to come in tomorrow for an initial interview if i get the pay they show in the ad, it will be over twice what i was making before, so i am definitely hoping for this to work out for me, especially if they want me to start soon as then i won't have to wait too long to start making money again

I know just how that feels. It happened to my sister twice. The first time, she was told that she was on contract and the company had work for her only for 3 months, they extended it to 6 months, and then she was asked to go, and the project was no longer there.

The 2nd company however, brought her in place of a person who had been in the job for only 2 months, and told her the previous person was asked to leave, and then, after her being on the job for 2 months, asked her to train her replacement and leave. ]:|

Needless to say, I told her to take up a job with a proper big company, and no contract crap. She is now working with a bank, and is very happy with her job. In 3 months, she will be a permanent employee. Of course, she had to sit at home for a few months and spend all her time looking for a proper job, but it was worth the wait.

Moondog, I am sure you will find something much better. Dont worry

I've been in similar positions to this before. While it is inconvenient and disappointing to loose the job, keep faith in yourself and believe that there is something better waiting.

Sorry to hear you are on the job hunt again, I'm sure it will all work out. I believe things happen for a reason much like JB does.
