My hubby is a qualified mechanic. Doesnt work as one anymore for health reasons anymore though.

I have had lots of tradies come through my house the last few months because we are extending. Tradies never seem to show up when they say they will.

I was a Prop Master/Artsan and did Set Construction in theatre for over 13 years... does that count?

What is a sparkie? Here, the pet dog at the fire station is usually called Sparkie.

edit: oh, and in america i don't think anyone calls them "tradies" at all, that might be why very few responses

I'm a 'tradie girlfriend' - does that count? My boyfriend has been a sparkie for nearly 6 years. Very handy when it comes to doing electrical work around our apartment.

Dan forgot to mention that I also taught the trade for 26 years 13 to apprentices and the remainder at a Technical school. That meant a total of 36 years in the trade.

One big tip about Tradies never tell then to do any thing ask "Can they do it as soon as possible please." By doing that you will be supprised at the reaction you will get.

thats because it so hard to say how long each job will take. try booking them for the first job of the day on a certain date and ring to confirm the day before. also a polite mention about how the check will be late because they took so long will help lots .

maybe you need some new tradesmen

I have just received my certificate 3 bus, truck and trailer. Im now a tickited coach builder, so hopefully on to the big bucks$$$ I think the idea of a skills pool is a great idea. I also offer my welding\metal fabrication skills for weekend cashies to any one around gold coast to brisbane region.
My father is a Shipwright for 35years. And his father was a motor mecanic for 35 odd years, and so on. They all owned their own bussiness. I guess it was in my genes to do a trade, I can't wait to get my own shop one day. I would love to get into kustom car, bike stuff. When it rolles out nothing is factory standard.
Keep up the good work Cya

There are some nicknames that could not be mentioned here.
Did you notice those trades are all in the Building trade.
