It's been awhile since I've written anything in Water Quality...

I figured while I still can move my fingers, I'd better get something in this Forum pertaining to what we all strive to accomplish in one way or another, good water quality.

Now some of us know all the answers. Why should I bother to write about water quality when so much has already been written and accomplished??

Take a guess. Ever notice how many new FP members are constantly showing up with questions?? I have.

This Website has info posted about ways and means to keep fish healthy. Do the new members really read the info?? Some do, many don't.

But that can be expected. New members, sometimes seasoned members as well, would rather communicate with others in the appropriate Forums than just read some pre-printed info. After all, the pre-printed info doesn't reply, especially if the problem has twists and turns.

Well, enough of that. Let's get back to the "word".

"Eu-tro-phi-ca-tion". I love it. Finally a descriptive word that can be used to describe...well...let Webster inform you:

Eutrophication:

"The process by which a body of water becomes enriched in dissolved nutrients (as phosphates) that stimulate the growth of aquatic plant life usually resulting in the depletion of dissolved oxygen."

There it is. But there's a lot more to the story and the story concerns a question asked over and over again by new as well as established hobbyists.

The subject is so important that a lack of knowledge about it can result in trops slowly passing on to "Trop Heaven".

NEXT: Watch the NO-3.

Thanks Gary,
The water quality section is always the first place I start. Was thinking to myself the other day when the next GR article would appear? *waits patiently for next installment* Can I raise my Nitrates any other way apart from "tree stump remover"?(hard to find here).
