Just so you know, I started tank with a two week old filter media from my large tank, added some plants from the old tank, and put some gravel into a nylon stocking into the tank also. Below has been going on for a week now, but let me try and get this out sounding intelligent.

ph 8.0
Temp. 82

Beginning: (lets say day 1 for simplicity)
NH4 0
NO2 4-8 (can't really read the differents when it is that dark)
NO3 80-160 (same as above)

Did a 1/3rd water change, added 1 cc of NO4
NH4 1
NO2 1
NO3 20

Day 2
NH4 0
NO2 4-8 (can't really read the differents when it is that dark)
NO3 80-160 (same as above)

I did a 1/3 water change and added no NO4
NO2 1
NO3 20-40

Day 3

NH4 0
NO2 1
NO3 20-40

Am I close yet???? I have a lot of white little worms in the tank, my fry will be happy when they enter it I am sure.

See my profile (link below) for fish and setup.

You have to keep adding the ammonia every day or the bacteria will starve and die. They have a life cycle of 8hrs or something like that. Add a little bit every day. I'm not sure the exact amount, but when I fishless cylced I added a couple mL's a day in a 20G tank. It took a while, but not any longer than a normal cycle. Only do water changes if you are testing excessive amounts of ammonia or nitrite. 1-2ppm of NH4 and up to 8-10ppm of NO2 are normal, I think.

Make sure however to consistantly dose the ammonia, or you won't know if you have enough bacteria to reduce fish waste. You will know when you are done because you will test 0 NH4 and 0 NO2 even though you are still dosing it(you will obviously test waste RIGHT after you dose).

ok, I added 1cc of NH4 last night, reading this morning was 0, added another 1cc this morning, NH4 1. My No2 was 1 and my NO3 was 10. I hope I don't have too much longer to wait.
