Parameters seem to spike easily in smaller tanks, I change 50% in my ten every week, but do it over two water changes. You just can't be too careful with smaller tanks, anything ten or under needs more maintenance than the larger tanks do, for the above reason although a lone betta in a two isn't really overloading the tank so you'll be ok Oh, and a weak filter on the two is fine as betta don't like currents anyway.
