for a two gallon mini aquarium with a single male beta???
the tank is filtered, but the filter isnt very strong, not adequate enough for me to go longer than a week without water changes i would say. is 30% once a week enough???

A 50% water change will be better.

I say if it is working why fix it?

But hey, 50% will work just as well.

Yes, I'd definitely go with 50%, or maybe even 30% twice a week. Parameters seem to spike easily in smaller tanks, I change 50% in my ten every week, but do it over two water changes. You just can't be too careful with smaller tanks, anything ten or under needs more maintenance than the larger tanks do, for the above reason although a lone betta in a two isn't really overloading the tank so you'll be ok
Oh, and a weak filter on the two is fine as betta don't like currents anyway.

well, soon he will be in a 7 gallon with a small bottomfeeder as a tankmate, and the peramiters should be a bit more stable
