I used BioSpira to cycle my ten gallon and had no issues whatsoever with it. It cycled instantly, I never even noticed much in the way of ammonia or nitrite spikes.

I used NIC when my twenty gallon was treated with antibiotics for a cyanobacteria episode. There was a hint of a minicycle, but thanks to NIC, it wasn't too bad. I noticed minor spikes, but nothing overly harsh.

Overall, I liked BioSpira better, but wasn't able to get it when I was working with my twenty gallon. Although I did a normal cycle with the twenty gallon to start it, after seeing danios die in my sister's fifteen gallon during a cycle with NIC, I'd really rather not start up a new tank without BioSpira. (Although why betta girls survived a non-assisted cycle with ease and danios died in an NIC dosed tank is beyond me.)

This works REALLY well. It is proven to be better than NIC. Cory_Di did a test with NIC and Bio-Spira. Bio-Spira pretty much cycles your tank immediately. As with NIC, you have to make sure you have some ammonia source when you add the bacteria, or slightly before.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

Fascinating, thanks. What I'm looking for is really what people have used that works, how they worked for them from their own experience..supplements, starters, whatever the case may be.

Be advised that NIC and Bio Spira are bacteria "starters" not supplements, active almost immediately to allow new fish to be added after acclimation to a new tank without the hassle of complete cycling first.
