When setting up a new tank, say 55g and above, what is the method you prefer for cycling the tank?
[option1]Use hardy fish, seed with bacteria from an established tank[/option1]
[option2]Use NIC(New Improved Cycle) or Bio Spira, and put in some of the fish you want[/option2]
[option3]Fishless Cycle, augment with NIC or Bio-Spira[/option3]
[option4]Fishless Cycle plus seed with bacteria from an established tank[/option4]
[option5]Other[/option5]

and/or augment with the bacterial "starter" concoctions out there. I would not put $500 plus worth of fish in a new tank and have to depend soley on some cheesey bacterial additive to keep my fish from suffering from new tank syndrome.

Plant so heavily there's no cycle at all, or if the tank isn't going to be planted, run the filter on an existing tank for several weeks. Haven't done a traditional "cycle" in years thanks to those two methods.

I just DID fishless cycle with established bacteria, but I also used NIC. I figured, "Why not? Maybe it will help." I have no proof which part helped more, but I cycled in 1 week! So something worked right.

I have to vote this way as it's the only way I've every cycled a tank. I've also never lost a fish due to the cycle. Now that I have tanks that I trust for cycling I use gravel or start a filter running on an established tank before moving it to the new tank.

All though I have never done it that way, any future tanks that I setup will be cycled like that.
