I was wondering where i can get bio spira, how much i'd need, how much it costs, and alternatives to it. My tank is 55 gallons.

Alternatives are Nitrovec (Sera) and Cycle (Hagen) although testing done by some members shows that they are not quite as effective as BioSpira.

I am unsure where you can get it at this point in time.

Anyone?

You need to find a store that carries it, because it is kept in the refridge. It must be kept cold until used, as it is live bacteria, and be sure to check the expiration date when you purchase it.

Actually, I have seen it in many chain pet stores as well as my LFS.

It is usually not stored in the refrigerator in the stores. If I remember it correctly, the package says that you should store it cold once it is opened.

Follow the instructions on the package if you plan to have a successful and fast cycling, and don’t expect a One-Day-Wonder as it is not going to happen. It will take a few days (4 to 6 would be my estimate).

I recently had success with Stability by Seachem......If you can't find Biospira. Good stuff.

Before, I beleive. What ever the directions say. You can add fish right afterwards though.

If you put it in too far before it will die as there is nothing for it to feed on without the fish in the tank producing ammonia.

Depends on the size bottle you buy. The hundred mL bottle is usually around five dollars U.S., and the two-fifty bottle is about ten dollars. Prices will vary by store, but those are the average prices of the two most commonly-sold size containers.

I also used Stability to help cycle my tank, and liked it.
