Just wondering what are the effects of putting cooled boil water in the fish tank?
I know that boiling water kills most bacteria...I was wondering what else does it do?

Cheers
Should have done chemistry at school.

When I went to school we would not have heard of the word Chemistry, so dont worry too much about all the correct cnemical answers.

The answer is a big "no".

There are others here on FP that can give you the full reasons why. But the answer is still the same "no"

Hi,
I have to admit I'm curious as to why you would waste the
energy necessary to raise an appreciable volume of water
to boiling and hold it there long enough to kill off
any bacteria when the water company uses chlorine or and,
or chloramine to do that chemically.

If you are on well water, you should be testing that water
annually for bacteria and treating it if necessary. If the
well water is safe to drink, then it is safe for the fish
and use in an aquarium.

Boiling the water will do nothing to its chemistry.

Boiling the water and then condensing the steam and using
that in the aquarium is called distilled water and it should
not be used 100% in aquariums. The water that results
from the condensed steam is completely pure and lacks any
impurities ... it's just H2O with nothing else and is not
good for the fish. You can use it mixed with tap water to
dilute the values of the tap water.
(Lower pH, GH, KH, etc.)

Boiling water may kill pathogens but it will also concentrate any minerals in the water. Don't do it! If you have any residual salt, metals or inorganic compounds, those items will become stronger as you boil water. Boiling water reduces the liquid volume as pure water (steam) is given up to the atmosphere. No contaminants or soluble items are given up in the steam.
