I have a 10 gallon hex tank. There have been bubbles on top of the water for the last few days. Small bubbles, almost like soap would make. Also, at a certain angle I can see some colors on top of the water. Almost smilar to an oil slick, but very faint.

I have one Beta fish in the tank. I am doing a 10% water change this evening.

Hi,
The "oil slick" you see is a build up of organics and
caused by the type of fish food you are using. You can
eliminate it by changing foods, using an airstone, or you
can lay a paper towel on the surface letting it soak up
the surface scum and then discarding it.

In that kind of water, when the betta exchanges the used
"bubble" of air for a fresh gulp, the bubble will remain
because of the oils in the water.

Or

If you have a cluster of bubbles in one spot, then the
betta is building a bubble nest and each bubble is coated
with a "glue" from the fish that makes the bubbles last
longer and stick together.
