Keep an eye on them for any signs of stress. IME danios do just fine thru the cycle. I tested daily last time I cycled, however testing every other day is fine as well. You'll see ammonia continue to rise then fall as the nitrIte rises. Once the NitrIte falls with nitrAte present you'll be done and ready to continue stocking slowly. ^_^ [hr width='40%'] And though it’s red blood bleeding from her now. It's more like cold blue ice in her heart. She feels like kicking out all the windows. And setting fire to this life." ![]() |

I think I remember having the nitrIte stage being the longest. Preforming any waterchanges will lessen the ammounts of ammonia but it will make the cycle take longer and I'd reccomend against doing any. ^_^ ![]() |

It's hardness that has more than one way to measure. I do wonder how a waterchange can slow the cycle? If you have 1ppm ammonia and the next day you have 1.5 then your fish are generating ammonia faster than the bacteria can reproduce to consume it all. The bacteria can only multiply so fast so what is the difference between having 3ppm or 1. So long as you have more being produced than they can use they are going to continue to multiply. Also high levels up near 8 have been known to completely stop a cycle. The bacteria can't even reproduce. So at what level does it start to actually slow the cycle down? I do waterchanges when ammonia reaches over 2 with fish or over 4 with fishless cycle. Last edited by sham at 02-Apr-2005 10:25 |

I experienced ammonia spike around 2 weeks, and the nitrite stage lasting for about a month. With your tank being a 75g, I would expect somewhat of the same timeline, although I had a small bio-load. Are you using any cycling agents? Sometimes, these may help speed up the process and keep the spikes low. I reccommend "New Improved Cycle," as many here at FP will also agree. You will tend to see a smaller spike, which will help keep your fish from getting sick. Last edited by harleysiber at 02-Apr-2005 10:35 |
