By using water ager chlorine and most of the time chloramine are neutralised. But you can get away with using water ager if u let the tap water to sit for 48 hrs and all the chlorine should be evporated already. But how about chloramine? Will it be removed by just letting the tap water to sit for 2 days before use? Chloramine will kill fish and beneficial bacteria as the same way as chlorine? And are there test kids to test for chloramine? (I personally never seen one, only for chlorine) Any answers or comments will be great. |

Chlorine will pass out of water as a gas within eight hours but ammonia will linger for many more hours before evaporating. Some believe that activated carbon will remove ammonia from the water but the fact is the result is very poor. Water treatment plants will add ammonia during summer months if, after testing, the water does not meet safe drinking standards. --garyroland. Last edited by garyroland at 21-Dec-2004 21:08 |

The amount of ammonia added at the plant is rather small and before it ever reaches the tap it has done its intended purpose, to aid in killing bacteria in peak summer months along with chlorine, and has dissipated. Some plants do not add ammonia unless their water tests show higher than normal bacterial activity. --garyroland. |
