Hi I woke up this morning to find my ocsar tank cloudy white..
I did the white cup test and it is not green it is clear...
heres the thing i just got this tank about three weeks ago (cycled)it was used when i bought it and the people i bought it from........put it this way four hours of cleaning..
and yes they had poor fish in it BUT im wondering if the dirt that was in the tank before could have done this I've only had one tank that did this before and I turned off the lights for a few days and it went away.
Is this the same deal or do i have a bigger problem
AND to top it off im outta tests
should i do a water change and gravel vac? or just turn off the lights and wait?

PLEASE help it looks sick.....

Not sure what you're accomplishing by leaving the lights off other then reducing the stress factor on the fish some. If it's cloudy white that means minicycle. Has anything changed lately, feeding routine, foods, added fish, added plants, power outages, missed cleaning routine?

A light gravel vac and water change could help, especially if you can do a dose of Cycle. Otherwise I'd just wait it out...and pick up a master test kit while you wait .

Yeah, frequent water changes are the best way to clear up cloudy water. Do several small water changes daily until the problem goes away. If your schedule won't allow that, then go with some slightly larger changes every day, and keep that up. The water should clear up soon, unless the previous owners had something really nasty in the tank.

Honestly if you put that much cleaning into it I dont think the tank remained cycled, especially if you didnt take precautions in moving the tank to ensure that the bacteria had a proper oxygen supply.
Since it's been three weeks I'd assume that the tank had time to recycle itself and that whatever you're seeing now is a result of a new issue.

I will get another master test kit on friday (when i get paid lol)
and what the owners had it in when I bought the tank was about 40 or 50 guppys and one pleco...
I took out the guppys and put them in another tank of mine for feeders (they were all very small) and I kept the very large plecko to keep in the ocsar tank.
even since my last post it cleared up a tiny bit.
I thought that turning out the lights would also help the algae or bacteria to stop multiplying I know it releaves stress...but im pretty sure it does this as well...

there was no new additions besides the two ocsars and the large pleco after the tank was cycled so that is normal is it not?

So start a water change?

Angel eel
thanks a ton guys =p

EDIT: and i did keep water from the old tank to keep the change down and a few of there filthy plants =\ even though i did not want to was this a wrong move ?

BABELFISH-Could you explain how i could have cut off oxygen to the bacteria while moving the tank?? That may be one of the problems

Well depending on the type of algae lights out or a black out will help, never heard of it slowing bacterial growth. Since it's white it's a bacterial bloom. Small waterchanges and don't over clean the gravel or filter.

What size tank is this? A pleco and two oscars will need a large tank.

EDIT: The biofilter needs a consistant supply of oxygen. A move of an hour or more would have needed a battery operated airstone to supply the bacteria with oxygen.

Well I have the pleco and the oscars in a 30 gal, The oscars are still just babys..they have tons of room NOW but I'm trying to find a good online store or someone to buy a 100 Gal from (if you know any please help im in Canada)
So they will be in a bigger home soon =p

As far as the move it was only a 5 minute drive then when I got home i took the fish that was in the tank and put them in another tank of mine for a short time and i also set up the filter in another tank so it did not dry out even the fake plants i put in another tank lol

I think i did everything I should have

I'm starting my water change now and I dont say there is enough crap in the rocks even to get much out of a vac should I still do it? or just a flat water change?

Thanks a bunch
