I have a 55 gal that is lightly planted, with a under gravel filter system and two Aquaclear 300 filters on it. Currently, I have two parts foam, one part carbon in the filters. When I change out the filters I rotate one of the pieces of foam and then add a new piece of carbon. What I was wondering was if I stopped placing one new piece of foam in the Aquaclears and just rinsed out the old pieced of foam really well, would their be a negative affect on my tank’s health?

That should be fine all i do with my foam inserts on all my filters is rinse them out.You only need to replace them when they start to thin out or break down.

Gibson SG you know you want one!!

That's actually really for the best. By throwing out the sponge you lose all your biofilter, with rinsing it you only lose some of your biofilter. I'd be somewhat worried about your UGF, they normally dont' cooperate well with plants. Let alone cause their own set of problems if not properly maintained.

I agree, I've used an aquaclear for nearly a year now, and I've only replaced that sponge filter once.
