Hi all, Over the last 4 days my tank water has gone really green, normal weekly 25% water changes have been carried out, all nitrate levels etc. are normal only additions are some new plants and a FB filter (Filter about 4 weeks ago).

What could be causing it, I live on the central coast of NSW and our water levels in the catchment is really low could this be affecting the tank, How can i fix it.

Thanks for any help

Sounds like an algae bloom. The water storage being low like most of Aust now it is possible some thing has come with the water of it was introduced when added the new plants.

Do several water changes about 3-4 days appart (store the water fitst) and if possible strain it through a very fine filter (cotton wool etc) Just in case it came through the water supply. Also give the filter a very good cleaning using the old tank water.
Adding a very good airation could also help.

Another thing where is the tank located is it in the natural sunlight. Now for the lighting what type do you have, how many hrs is it on for also how old are the lights.

Let us know how things are going in a wek or so but if the problem still continues ask again explaining all what you have done trying to correct the concern.
