![]() | My PH Keeps Falling |
Meg's Mom![]() Enthusiast Posts: 208 Kudos: 435 Votes: 10 Registered: 25-Mar-2004 ![]() ![]() | I thought of the kH but wouldn't the pH fall in all of the tanks since the water comes from the same tap ? I do gravel vacs at each water change (so minimum once per week). Would I be jeopardising my bacteria culture if I vacuum more ? I only raise the pH by doing a water change then adding one dose of pH increaser but again, within one week, it will drop to 5 - 5.5. Would crushed coral be okay with my corys ? Also, how/where would I add it ? |

If the water is soft, it can lead to the lower pH you described. You might want to do more gravel vacs; if debris has built up in the substrate, this can lower the kH and pH. Also, you could add some crushed coral to 'buffer' the water; this will raise the kH, and help to stabilize the situation. What you don't want to do is to dramatically raise the pH in a short time, as this will stress the fish, and make ammonia, if present, more toxic to the fish. |
