I overfilled my Nutrfin C02 system, with the result that froth was forced into my 20 gal tank. My tank has gone very cloudy. To try to clear some of the cloudiness I have replaced about 50 litres, the cloudiness has cleared some. My questions are firstly is the froth bad for my 5 corries and 1 purple spotted gudgeon, and secondly any ideas to clear my tank.

With regards Mr gudgeon

As long as it wasn't a LARGE amount I wouldn't be too worried.

I would do 10-20% daily water changes until the water clears.

I've done 15% water changes, twice daily (10-12 hours apart) a few times when something was off and the fish weren't harmed. But make sure the water temp is identical. Although, with co2, I don't know how much that would affect your pH - two changes per day. Are you continuing to run the unit or have you ceased for now?

I do know that the stuff funguses easy. I had just a few drops of that solution work their way through the tube and it fungused my ladder to the point the bubbles wouldln't walk through it right. My point here is to watch for any place this stuff may have settled.

Let us know how the fish do in the coming days. I have the same system and wanted to know what would happen.

In what way did you overfill it? Was it too much yeast? I did that and ended up with 3 bubbles per second. I restarted it with only 1/2 tsp of yeast and 1/2 tsp of baking soda. Or, did you overfill with water?

Check the pH and see if it has changed as a result of the mixture in the water.

Good luck and welcome to Fishprofiles.com

Hi Cory di, I have been reading your posts on your c02 and your questions were very helpful for me.
I overfilled my c02 system with water. I put a whole satchel of yeast in, hey I get 5 satchels in a packet, thats 5 months worth I have noticed some funny stuff on the ladder this morning. The tank is in my classroom and the chn just love watching the bubbles make there way up the ladder. The effects of the c02 system have been outstanding in regards to my nitrates. The plants are going great guns. I'm a bit worried about the fish thou, they seem a little subdued. Ph is around 6.5, Nitrates around 5. No. of bubbles curently are around 1 bubble every 4-5 seconds. Bubbles were around 1 bubble per 2 seconds innitially. Mr Gudgeon

- Don't feel so bad. I put an entire packet of Fleischmann's Dried Yeast into the container (about 3x the amount in the Hagen packet) and I was getting 3 bubbles per second. My pH dropped rapidly.

I hope you checked some of the links provided by Frank and some of the others in my threads. They are great, especially the charts. If you know your kH and pH, the chart and/or calculator can tell you just how much co2 you likely have.

I have to pull my ladder out tonight and clean it. I'm sure some of that stuff caked onto the bottom of the first rung and it keeps getting fuzzy, disrupting the flow of bubbles. Some escape right off the first rung because of it.

How are the fish otherwise with the cloudy water? They may be subdued do to that, or the rapid change in pH, if the solution caused it to drop more.

So glad to hear they can survive that. Sorry you had to be the one to experiment for the rest of us

I pulled my ladder out, and my hose today. I ran water through the hose as there was a little of the solution peppered here and there. It was causing a really odd flow. And, the ladder was just coated in fuzz fungus. It was very hard to clean off because of the angle of the rungs. But it looks good now and bubbles are flowing nice and even.
