Sorry, Edith I didn't read your 1st post properly. My mistake that I thought you had some cycling fish in the tank, but I just read your 1st post again. There has to be something in the tank to create the waste (ammonia) & this is usually some tough fish & their waste is what keeps everything turning over & helps the good bacteria keep on growing. Like Frank says, another method is using household ammonia, but I have never tried that myself.

Yes, I heard that danios are good fish to use for cycling. I've never had them myself, but lots of people recommend using them to cycle the tank - so they would be a good idea.

I didn't do any water changes while my tank was cycling. Once my tank had fully cycled, then I did my 1st 50% water change.
