![]() | Nitrates: how high is too high? |

But what's the definition of "too high" and the definition of "long term"? 40 ppm? 80 ppm? 100 ppm? Two weeks? A month? Six months? At what point (time-wise and level-wise) do problems start occurring? Just a curiosity question -- I do weekly water changes, so 40 ppm is about the highest level of nitrates I have in my tanks. |

Some say 40 ppm, others say letting them get up to 100ppm is ok too. Personally i've had better luck with my tanks going with the 40ppm idea. That's not to say i've never let them get as high as 100ppm ![]() |
