Okay I just bought a 80 Gallon tank this weekend, I started to cycle it, I must admit I know nothing about cycling, well kinda....

Anyways I did water tests and here are the results ..

ph 7.6
high range ph 7.8
ammonia 0.25 ppm
nitrite o ppm
nitrate 0 ppm

My question is when is it done??? lol I know that either nitrates or nitrites has to be zero but they both are, and I dont know if that a safe ammount of ammonia.

Any help would be great =)

Take a look at that link... it describes the Nitrogen Cycle quite well.

In short, you'll watch the ammonia rise and spike, then begin to decline as nitrites spike, then they'll drop and you'll get nitrates. Once Ammonia and Nitrites are zero and you get an increase in Nitrates, you're cycled. I highly suggest reading the above article, though.

First you will see spike in NH3 and then as the beneficial bacteria starts developing, NH3 level will drope and your NO2 will spike. When the tank is fully cycles you will have 0 reading for NH3 and NO2 and NO3 reading depending on the tank and the stage.
Now you are ready to add fish.

I personally never use filter, or gunk or gravel from an established tank to seed new my tank since this will introduce any harmful pathogenes that might be in your established tank.

i hope there will be plants in there...it will definitely help in the cycle, plant on the 2nd day after the set-up...then u can put the hardy fish to start the cycle on the 3rd day.
