Over the last few days an otto I got a week ago and died and I couldn't find him. Then when I was cleaning my tank today I found pieces of the missing otto. How do I get rid of the green water it left with me?

Was the otto the only fish in the tank?

No There were two otto's, 4 White clouds, 3 Zebra danio's. I've had the tank for roughly 5 months. It has cycled, but I did not find the otto that died until about 4 days later under my aquarium rock when I was vaccuming. By then I just vaccummed his remains from under the rock. I found that the green water came in slowly over a series of days. I'm Thinking I have to vaccum and do a 3 gal water change for the next few days. I just got 4 more Zebra danio's (feeder size)and 5 more white clouds (feeder size) as well as 2 albino cories. Don't yell at me for only having two cories, I had just maxed out on my fish for the day and will be getting more later. Any other help will be greatly appreciated.

If you look at my thread, on another green water thread you might get an idea of what to do if you had no fish or were will to take out your fish for a day or so. If you don't have another tank to put your fish in for a day, my suggestion to you would be: 1. Turn of the lights on the tank completely, absolutely no light and no sunlight hitting the tank for about 3 days. 2. Do not feed your fish for the first 2 days. 3. Do daily water changes of around 30-35% those 3 days. 4. For the next week, do water changes ever other day if you have to time and if not, every 2 days.

After those 3 days your water should be A LOT better if not fixed. However, for the next week after those 3 days, limit the the light to 4-5 hours a day only and make sure you do not overfeed.

Finally, green water is NOT harmful to fish. Green water is just an algea bloom. It does not affect your water quality one bit. Green water is just not very pretty to look at. Your fish are safe if you have green water. If you have problems with nitrates, the daily water changes for 3 days should fix problem tremendously.

Please let me know what happens with your tank, and do not hesitate to ask more questions if you have some.

My tank is already getting clearer since I did a water change and got the two dead otto's out of the tank. I can see my plant from one end to the other and also my two cories on the side of the tank. Do't yell at me for having only two cories, I will get some more. Thanks for all the help!
