I have been in the hobby for 3 1/2 years never had a PH problem until now. My tank is 6.0 the and my tap is 7.2 the only thing diffrent is that I changed gravel recently could this new gravel cause my PH to drop?

Hi,
Presuming that you used regular aquarium gravel and
not something like crushed coral, oyster shells, or
dolomite, then I suspect it is just the tank
settling back in. Once it is as established as the
one you "overhauled" it should be back to "normal."

Additionally, when you replaced the substrate you
destroyed bacterial colonies that change the fish
waste products to nitrates, and set any plants that
you might have in the tank back. Now the tank has
to recycle and in the meantime the waste products
turn acidic and lower your pH.

It very possibly could do it.

Here, tap is about 7.2pH. But as soon as it sets out for a number of hours, or is treated with any kind of water treatment for the removal of hard metals. The pH goes up to 8.0
