What could cause my PH to go up so much. Nitrate, nitrite, amonium are ok. But the PH is really high above 8.0 the tap water is around 7.0-7.4

What could be causing this. A bounch of fish have died from this.

Thanks for all your help

Hello, welcome to FishProfiles.

Did you add anything recently? I'm thinking something that contains something such as calcium carbonate, which raises hardness and buffers the pH, is to blame here. There's not much else that would do it.

Usually coming off a limestone base, pH is going to be a lot higher than 7.4 right out of the tap. I draw about 8.0 off of my well. The best way to test that, though, is to take a cup of tap water and leave it alone for 24 hours. That should allow any dissolved gases (namely, CO2) to bubble out. Remeasure the pH at that point -- that's your true tap pH.

If your tap water is OK then it must be something in the tank.
This could be rocks, gravel substrate, any decoration/s.
Also do you have any plants live or artificial

Tell us about all of these items please or any else in the tank.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info
