Hello all. Last Sunday, I was up at ThatFishPlace for their yearly spring sale. While i was there i decided to go see one of their seminars. They had three guys there talking about anything you wanted. The only name i remember is Rosario La Corte. Someone asked about ph. The three guys said you should NOT always try and change your ph. Someone said that they were having a hard time lowering there ph to 7.0. He said that He sees nothing wrong with higher ph. He does have problems with books saying the amazon is of acidic water. He personally was in the Amazon and measured the Ph in differnt parts of the Amazon. Some parts were as low as 5, while the majority were in the sevens. He says it is worse for fish to be in a tank that people are always trying to change the ph value rather than keep it where it is. He said doing water changes weekly is also very important. I agree with everything he said. Do You?

somehow...i agree... i myself experienced the changed in my pH when i added my co2 system for my plants...if i have no plants in my tank..i will stick to what pH i have coz...i dont want to add additional stress to the fish. people r better off with what pH that came out of the tap...and for sure..their LFS has the same..so..its easier to the fish to make the transition.

Hi,
Those guys are correct. It is now days considered best,
if the pH is stable rather than moving all over the place.

It's kinda like humans. If it is very warm one day and
very hot another with no time to adjust, some of us
frequently get colds. Same way in the summer time. Some
work in air conditoned spaces with the temp in the low 70s
to upper 60s and then take a break for lunch out somewhere
and the temp is in the 90s, then back into work and then
back out to go home. It stresses our systems.

Its the same with fish. The constant yoyoing of pH, will
affect their metabolism and weaken their over all health
as they try to constantly adjust to the changing
environment.

Frank

My water starts at 7.8 ph in the spring while the snow is melting and diluting everything. In the dry summer last year it was 8.8. When it gets up that high I dilute it back down to 8.4 using distilled water. Otherwise I leave it alone and have had plenty of amazon fish spawning. Alot of fish will not only adjust to a different ph but thrive and spawn if other conditions are met.
