So I'm forced to switch brands of dechlor *sulks* Big Als doesn't carry aquarium pharms tap water conditioner that I like.
I ordered Prime instead, unfortunatly my directions give in 50 gallon doses .

I do by single gallons @a time (silly me used my 2 gallon water change bucket for mixing up wet suit shampoo!). Anyone else use prime and know how many drops per gallon? I've been doing 5 but not sure if an OD is bad .

I hate those types of products]:|

Anyways, I took a calibrated pipet and counted the number of drops in 1 ml (i'd only do this for the most helpful people on the site ). It came out to 20 exactly. I did it twice. So I'd say that 2 drops would be needed for each gallon(on the logic that 1ml doses 10G). It says on the seachem website that a double dose wouldn't hurt either, so maybe OD a little?

I use Prime too and i have always been wondering the same thing. I think i am always putting in way too much. Your calculations are very helpful but how would you know how big a drop to put in? The Prime container does not have a dropper but just a wide opening. I'm afraid it would spill too much into the tank.

Thanks matty ....that or you broke your leg again and were bored .

True on the drop size....I've actually refilled the dropper bottle from a previous dechlor, genisis, that does 1dpg....So looks like 2-5 drops might be alright .

*checks ankle* nope no break

Well you could always take organic chem and just "borrow" one of the calibrated pipets . In all seriousness you could probably find a calibrated pipet at a chemistry type supply store in the area - waaay too much hassle to dechlorinate some water though. I just use that simple blue bottle. It does what it says and no more "dechlor".

This is where having a step dad who is the chem lab manager comes in handy ...been meaning to ask him if he's got any good jobbies for holding test tubes for when they're drying .

Babel,
What I do with my Prime:
inside the cap is threads, each thread is 10g. I fill to the first thread for each bucket, up to 5 buckets, then none for the rest, or I used to before I bought a
Python. Now I just put the python in and dump the whole works 1 capful in for each water change.
Having had my 90g tank blow out, I used Prime to
detoxify the holding buckets and the 25g tank I
kept my fish in temporarily. You CANNOT overdose on
Prime. The fellow at my LFS had his neice pour a whole 500 ml bottle (1000g worth) in his 55g tank with no ill effects.
By the way, I also feel it is the very best water conditioner on the market, and think you will be quite
happy with your swapover, not to mention the money saved
on water conditioner. (1 500ml bottle lasts me almost a year, not bad for 24.99)

Now why did he have her do it instead of himself (*won't go out on the whole, blame the female thing limb*).

T'anks for the support everyone , had a feeling I'd figured right/a little over...just wanted the second and third opinion.
I'm happy with the stuff...I'd be happier if it didnt' smell so bad !

I initially got the smallest bottle of Prime (with a handy flip-top cap that can be used as a dropper) and it says to use 2 drops per 4L (a bit less than 1 gal). So what I do now is buy the big bottles and use them to refill the small bottle and use the small bottle to dose. Having said that, I overdose regularly (usually 2x the recommended amount) since I heard the local tap water is treated with more chlorine/chloramine this time of year.

If you have the 500 ml bottle of Prime, then one capful equals 5 ml. Each thread width is about 1 ml for the first three threads. Alternatively a milliliter is equal to 0.202884135 US teaspoons or 1/5th teaspoon, therefore 5 ml is about one teaspoon. If you do not mind slight overdoses or underdoses then use:
10G 1/4 teaspoon
15G 1/4 teaspoon + 1/8 teaspoon
20G 1/4 teaspoon + 1/8 teaspoon
25G 1/2 teaspoon
30G 1/2 teaspoon + 1/8 teaspoon
40G 1/2 teaspoon + 1/4 teaspoon
50G 1 teaspoon
