If you have already started cycling a tank (2nd week) with fish in it, could you still use Bio-Spira if you came across some? My friend started a new tank and he was using NIC but he was able to come across some bio-spira but we don't know if he can still use it since the tank is 2 weeks old.

It is used to cycle a tank from the start, never tried it part ways into a cycle. If your friend has found some he is lucky, there is currently none availabe until the fall Sept/Oct range.

By all means add the Bio-Spira if you have some. I have used it to do a fishless cycle in conjunction with ammonia and completed the cycle in 6 days.

There is a shelf life to the Bio-Spira and it does need to be refridgerated. Hopefully the product you have found has been handled correctly.

Good Luck

Bryce

Bio Spira is meant to be used at the very beginning of the cycle when you are adding all your fish to the tank so it can keep up with the ammonia level. If you add it after you have a substantial ammonia level, it will still work, but may not be able to catch up fast enough to keep ammonia at a safe level. If you do a water change within a few days of adding the bio spira, you will probably take a lot of the bio spira out because it takes some time for it to find a place to settle down, and will be suspended in the flowing water.

I have Aqua-Plus which removes Chlorine and Chooramine.

Yes. Especially if your water is treated with chloramines. NIC only helps with ammonia and nitrites. You still need a good water conditioner.

You can definitely use bio-spira part way through a cycle -- I've done it with great results.

I added it to a tank that was really slow to cycle, and it finished the cycle in just a couple of days.

No, a water conditioner usually (you need to read the bottle) includes chloramines stabilizer. What you have is fine. I was just stating that besides NIC you needed something for chloramines.

Sly,

Your Aqua-plus is a dechlorinator. You said it yourself - it removes chlorine and chloramine. I've used the same stuff now for over a year.
