I plan to install it this weekend. My question is: What do I need to get in terms of water conditioner for RO water? I know it will make it a lot more acidic. Will I still need to use my regular water conditioner - AquaSafe? I looked on the site for PetSmart, but did not seen anything for RO filters. Thank you for your advice. |

There are products that you can buy to "reconstitute" the RO water and these would generally be available at the "better" pet shops. This requires alot of testing at first. You can either take the waste water from your ro system and mix a little back in or you can buy products to do that. The waste water has already gone through the sediment filters and chemical filtration so most of the bad stuff in the water would have been removed. This water is very hard so only small amounts are needed to mix with the RO water. For commercial products to reconstitute ro water kent's RO right is one of the simplest since it has everything mixed together in one powder and you just have to measure it out according to the directions. There are also lots of products that raise KH/PH and GH seperately. You will need to test those 3 things until they are at the point you want them and then make sure they are the same everytime after that. A water conditioner that removes chlorine is not necessary because there is no longer chlorine or chloramine in the water. |

I have printed out a copy to take with me tomorrow while I am out running errands so I will remember what to look for - can run by one of the local pet supply stores to see what they have there. A new water test kit, might be in order also. I am really excited to have found this filter. I have had some unpleasant experiences (fish with tumors)concerning our tap water, and buying bottled water is getting old - not to mention expensive. |
