I hope to be starting my shellie tank soon, it is being filtered and everything is in except the fish and shells. So i was wondering what is the best way to reach the preferred high pH of shellies without using too many chemicals or messing up the water. I know you can use driftwood and peat to lower pH, but what about to raise the pH?

You can use substrates designed more for marine tanks such as argonite sand. Any form of limestone will raise ph. Crushed coral and the more temporary way of baking soda. Baking soda has to be added to every water change and the ph needs to be matched so it's not a good long term solution for making high ph water. The rest will buffer your water around 8.0.
