Hi, I had a black hair algae problem on some of my plants , couldnt find a true siamese algae eater so i got a rosy barb instead. I just acclimatized him and put him in the tank.

Straight away he headed for the plants and started munching away happily! (on the algae not the plants!)

I'm wrapped, how big do these suckers get? seen profiles from 4-6 inches. anyone else had some? Nice looking fish too. I have a tiger barb school already so i'll see how he gets along with them and im thinking of getting him a partner now also.

30 gallon tank.

I too have some rosy and cherry barbs that are really good about picking the hair algae off of the plants. I think they just pick off more of it than they actually eat but they do a good job. 4-6 inches sounds rather large, I've never seen one that big myself.

Never seen my rosies nibble @algae but mine wasn't the easily nibbleable kind so that could have something to do with it. Like others in their family I know they appreacieate their greens and will play tug-of-war with a piece of deshelled pea.

Mine are about 2-3 inches at close to 3 years old, however I have a feeling they may have been stunted in their early years...errr year and month I suppose .

Mine are also just under 3 inches, and they're several years old.
