Hey everyone

Trying to figure out what this white fungus-like 'stuff' is on the bottom of my tank. It looks like a milky film, maybe a fungus of some kind, and it seems to be in large patches on the gravel.

Any ideas?

I haven't tried using a gravel vac yet because I don't want to disturb it and cause any outbreaks and kill my fish. But it almost looks like it's holding large chunks of the gravel together.

It is probably uneaten food, that has fungused. It would be best to vac it up and out of the tank. If you have a large "pile" of it, you may do a fish count, as it may be one of your fish has died and the fungus is now it. The "scattered" spots are most likely uneaten pieces of food on the bottom of your tank. Be causious when feeding, and only feed your fish what they will completely eat in about 5 mins. Anything else needs to be removed from your tank.

HTH.....

That's what I wondered.. It's actually my girlfriend's parents' tank, and near the beginning they overfed quite a bit, so maybe I'll try using the gravel vac and see how that goes.

Thanks!
