![]() | Temp on the rise while heater is unplugged. |
entkitty![]() ![]() ![]() Fish Addict Posts: 520 Kudos: 129 Votes: 1 Registered: 30-Apr-2003 ![]() ![]() | Here is my dilemma; My 60 Gal tank is reaching temperatures of over 87 degrees. My husband kept telling me my thermometer was not working right and so where the lfs. To prove them all wrong, I unplugged the thermometer. I was able to lower the temperature by changing out some water to 84, then again to 82. The tank in one day went from 82 (before 9AM) to 84 (after 7PM). I have the light off during this time. No sun light hits the tank and the ambiance of the room/house is 79-80 degrees. Last night, when cooling the tank down again, to only 2 degrees below what I started, I had unplugged the filter. (Eheim) and this morning, the temperature was down to 81 on its own, without my help. (yippee) Could my filter be the problem? I am not sure how it could be, but I have to ask. ![]() See my profile (link below) for fish and setup. Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back. |

Tank on a stand. oh, what am i going to do? My small 8 gal tank on the lower part of the stand stays at 79-80 at all times. Another is take off lids and cover with insect netting (to stop fish jumping out) and have a fan blowing on your tank. Or you may need to look at Air conditioning your room where the fish tank is to keep a constant temp.If your tank is marine, you will need a chiller unit to keep temps constant. Good luck. As for the room, the A/C is on to keep the room at 79 degrees. The net idea may work, it just seems so buzzard to me. :%) the frozen water bottle is another good idea, i can try that too. ![]() Last edited by entkitty at 02-Jun-2005 10:54 See my profile (link below) for fish and setup. Let air circulate you may use an electric fan near it to help circulate the air and reduce lighting which could be another cause of temp. rise |

tankie![]() Fish Addict Posts: 857 Kudos: 848 Votes: 230 Registered: 15-Mar-2005 ![]() ![]() | im not in favor of putting cold bottles in the tank....coz...the temp will not change the entire tank...u will end up with spot temp differences where the water near the bottle is colder than the rest of the tank...this is a very limited option. worse scenario...ull have ich in ur tank. since u have ac running in the room....try to lower the room temp a little bit more to say 76-77..then, ur water in the tank might go down to at least 80. |

entkitty![]() ![]() ![]() Fish Addict Posts: 520 Kudos: 129 Votes: 1 Registered: 30-Apr-2003 ![]() ![]() | my filter does not have a heater built in. as for the water bottle, this seems to help, i put a small bottle on both sides of the tank and it cools it about 1 1/2 degrees. (80 now) as for putting the AC down to 76-77, it would be running all day and night and i would freeze, let alone, having a bill of over $300. So that is not going to happen.(I have a very large house) Also, I did put the net on the back of the tank so it is also open, this too has helped quit abit. The only sickness I have had is fungle growth from it being so hot. I have remove the fish infected and they are in the lower tank getting better. Should be able to join the big tank in about 4 days time. ![]() ![]() See my profile (link below) for fish and setup. Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back. |

entkitty![]() ![]() ![]() Fish Addict Posts: 520 Kudos: 129 Votes: 1 Registered: 30-Apr-2003 ![]() ![]() | Just an update. The Fan did the trick. No more water bottles. A high powered fan, faning the top of the tank, with the netting on the back, cooled the tank to room temp in just 2 1/2 hours. Tank is at 80. Will turn the fan to high with tank lights are on. Thank you all!!! ![]() ![]() Last edited by entkitty at 09-Jun-2005 21:14 See my profile (link below) for fish and setup. Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back. |
