reun![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Big Fish Posts: 332 Kudos: 216 Registered: 04-Nov-2005 ![]() ![]() | its been 2 days since i set up my 29 gallon. i hit it with a dose of Cycle and some PH buffer,and have been letting it cycle. to help force a faster cycle i added some of the gravel from my 10 gallon. to also aid in speeding up the process I added the over the back filter from my 10 gallon(i overfilter, it was meant for a 30 gallon in the first place,lol) onto the 29, and put the new 50 gallon filter i purchased for the 29 gallon onto my 10 gallon. i have been monitering the amonia and nitrate levels,as well as ph in both tanks daily, so far all is looking good. no change in the 10 gallons ph or ammonia levels yet, nitrate reading is the same. now, on the 29 gallon, it has been nice and stable, i was able to measure a small amount of ammonia yesterday, but it is gone today. ph is a steady 7.0, so tonight i added my 3 julii corys to it to aid in speeding the cycling process without overloading the tank or stressing out/killing any fish. i get various responces, most people belive its best to wait a week to add any fish, but my 10 gallon is so overcrowded i want to get the 29 up and going asap. i intend to keep watching the ammonia levels very closly in both tanks in case i have to do emergency water changes to lower ammonia levels. if it spikes to high i have an addative that neutralises harmful amonia, i just dont wanna throw it in cause i wont know what the nitrogen cycle is if i do that... anyway, fingers crossed that the bacteria in the filter will be enough to combat the added waste from the 3 corys...I will see what it does over the next few days. |

If so why Cories? I think a small school of White Clouds or a similar fish would be far safer and better. One more thing be very patient and then some more. Especially since you added cycle and some "stuff" from your already cycled tank. Just watch your levels closely, as if they do rise, your corys may have problems with it. There is always a bigger fish... |
