My stepson recently informed me he treated my tank (which he is not even ALLOWED to feed the fish, mind you) with salt. Apparently he did dilute it, but added a full dosage all at once. I later added some after checking on here about it, not knowing he had added all that salt. The resulting problems have been horrendous.

My question about the salt: is is responsible for the white film developing on the tank glass? I NEVER had that before, until the last two weeks (which is when he added the salt). It almost looks chalky from a distance, but up close it looks stringy (very short, but it does move with the current).

Any advice?

Mary,

Standard advice is do a 20% to 50% water change. wipe down the inside of the glass as you do the water change so that you remove the gunk that floats free from the glass. The whit stringy stuff is probably bacteria.
