I started cycling my tank a week ago (fishless) and have finally gotten a nitrite spike. I am reducing the ammonia intake now. Does anyone know how long it will take for the nitrites to convert into nitrates? I heard that it takes longer than the first step.

it will probably take a couple weeks. keep adding ammonia to about 5 ppm so you continue to feed the bacteria.

looks like you're on the right track!
