is it possible for peat to make a ph lower than 6.5? Or no matter how long you leave the peat in your filter, the ph will never get below 6.5?

You could lower the pH to around 3 or lowerwith peat, but very unefficient, and non-practical as it would take a whole lot of peat.

As I am keeping Discus and I want the ph to be stable at 6.5.

And I want ask, the way to use peat is that if the desired ph has reached, then do I remove the peat from the filter? If so does it mean the ph will get higher eventually if I am not softening my local tap water(if it is hard naturally)?

And if this is the case, can the same pile of peat be used again or I have to get new peat everytime?

Hi,
Check out these sites on the use of peat,
especially when keeping discus fish:

http://badmanstropicalfish.com/articles/article9.html
http://world.std.com/~enjolras/faqgen.htm
http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/breeding/grangediscus/
http://www.netpets.com/fish/reference/freshref/discusbegin2.html

Many involve other subjects along with the use of
peat, but all concern the care, keeping, and breeding
of the discus.

Hope this helps...
Frank
