I'm coming to the end of my Stress Coat and wondered if anyone could recommend a better conditioner as it's not very good value for money (preferably available in the UK). Is there anything a bit more concentrated? and do I really need the Aloe vera?

Cheers

Personally, I don't use stress coat. A small ammount of salt in your tank will serve the same function of aiding in the production of the slime coating. By small I mean roughly 1 tsp per 10 gals of water. There are alot of people who think salt is a waste of time, but it is much cheaper than commercial products and this at least of all the claims made for it, it will do.

I use Seachem's Prime. It's heaps more concentrated than Stress Coat (2 drops treats 4L/1 US gal or 5mL for 200L/50 US gal).

I dont know if its available there in the UK but I use Wardleys Tristart. Good value for money and a concentrated formula. 2-3 drops for a 10 litre bucket is all you need.

I use Stress Coat in my tank and I have no issues with it. And I am way too lazy to do the math if Seachem's Prime is actually cheaper than Stress Coat (one being listed in Liters, the other in Gallons, plus the whole different dosing aspect).

Feel free to give me the answer, I surely will appreciate it.

tanker – Do I assume right that you are using RO water? If not, how else do you get rid of the chlorine, chloramines, and heavy metals?

Thanks,

Ingo

I use Prime. One bottle of Prime treats way more water than one bottle (same size) of Stress Coat. [link=Here]http://fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Water%20Quality/56274.html?200504132040" style="COLOR: #808080[/link] is a poll I made that compared Stress Coat to Prime... seems like we have a lot of Prime fans here.

Well it looks like Prime is not as easy to come by but I reckon a 250ml bottle would keep me for a couple of years! Any other's people use?

linkinpark stress coat is a water conditioner and it also replaces the slime coat on fish it also reccomends that you add it after adding new fish/ handeling fish

EDIT: and it is the same dose 5ml per 10G

or 10ml if replacing slime coat

Hiya

I have used "King British" Safe Guard 250ml at about £6 / bottle - last ages and never had no problems

Could not buy this recently and now use "Interpet Bioactive Tapsafe" with A.V. and they say benificial bateria - God knows what type of bacteria is in this - but for 500ml this was about £7 / bottle and using the same measure as stated should last twice as long as the other - been using this now for three months and the fish do not seem to complain - LOL

Best reagrds

Dave

I choose to alternate my conditioners, that way I avoid any pitfalls of sticking with only one.
