There's a big tank in the garage that I routinely put "water softening pellets" in. I'm wondering how this is going to effect my partial water changes. I believe, in theory that my water hardness will never be exactly the same as the time before. Pellets dissolve over time, inturn raising the hardness. Maybe I'm mistaken. Does anyone know if this is, in fact going to effect my water changes, if so is there something I can do? |

You fill a tank with salt pellets, and over time the salt exchanges with Ca and Mg and the result is softer water. You can purchase the salt in very large plastic bags from COSTCO or SAM's etc. When we worked for the La Quinta Hotel chain, I'd buy the stuff by the pallet full. I live in the Rockies and our water is hard and contains too much iron, so we will be soon installing a similar system.
