Stats, Tank 60G, over one year old, one 9 inch oscar and a 4 inch BN. pH7, NH4-0, NO2-0, NO3-10

Over the last day the water is appearing increasingly red in colour and fishy doesn't like it. However, when you are looking upwards into the tank, the water appears clear (knelt down looking at the tank below it)

I'm going to do a 50% water change to see if that helps.

Yesterday I added an algae control liquid but that was blue????

My main question is what can cause red water??? We considered blood but to make the water that red the fish would be dead by now.

The only thing I can think of is that algae liquid you poured in is reacting with the algae floating around the tank? (assuming you put it in for green water.)

I put it in for a thin layer of algea which was floating on the surface which I feared was preventing gas exchange. I did a big waterchange this morning before I went out and left the lights out all day. Just gotten back and it doesn't seem to have gone red again so I guess I will just have to wait and see what happens now.

Did the red water occur after you added that product?

I know when I bleached some hair algae it turned red. Did you have green water before you dosed it?

I didn't have green water but there was a thin film of algea floating on the surface.

It seems to have resolved itself now.
