![]() | Will PH Reducer Shock Fish? |

I have had very few problems with fish death until just recently. I wonder if the PH plays a part in that. Anyway, my question is this: if fish have been living in 8.4 PH for six months, will adding PH reducer be harmful or shocking to them? ![]() |

I think that you're not supposed to reduce it more than .5 every 24 hours, so I would stick with that. |

It just adds minerals or acid to your tank leaving others behind, so you could bring it down so it tests 7.0 but it would still feel like 8.4 to the fish but worse because of the chemical. If you need to reduce the ph, add drift wood and peat chips. |

If you can, try not to add chemicals to a tank, keeping it natural is the best thing to do! ![]() |

Any adjustment in pH should be done over a period of time so as not to shock the fish...I generally don't adjust pH, as it is an ever-uphill battle that contributes to wildly fluctuating or ever increasing osmotiic pressure, which is really lethal for your fish. |
