a few weeks back i posted a thread about how my tank wasnt cycling properly because ammonia levels were low for the longest time and nitrites hadnt registered at all.

well, a lot can happen in a few weeks. nitrites suddenly appeared and then, magically, last night they disappeared completely. testing for nitrate showed 10ppm. soooo... is this it? the promised land? am i done cycling?

Sounds like it! 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate? You're good to go!

No, there's no problem with adding plants after, though the tank might have to settle itself for a while.

What I mean is that it would have to get used to the new plants, just like with adding new fish.

but i thought adding plants was healthy for a tank in that some plants use up things like nitrate rather than produce them. or would they adversely affect the bacterial colonies in the tank...?

Yes they do eat up nitrate which is very helpful. It still doesnt replace water changes cause other metals and whatnot build up in the water. I've never added my plants first, but thats cause i forgot. And i think plants also help you fish to feel more secure. cali had an artical o green and how it makes you relaxed or something.

i never EVER planned on abandoning weekly water changes. i was just really excited about getting to plant this sucker and i was kinda worried that doing it after the cycle might be bad for the tank somehow... but as long as its safe im ready to go for it. thanks!
