The only thing that does that are water changes. However, there are some products out there that claim to bind to the molecules and therefore render them inert (Ammo-Lock comes to mind), although I have never used these and therefore cannot comment on their effectiveness. I do know, however, that Ammo-Lock does not remove the ammonia from the water, and therefore it would still show up on tests even if it had been rendered inert. The nitrAte absorbers that you generally see are geared towards SW tanks. Absorbing ammonia IMO is really rather silly since that's why you cycle a tank. After waterchanges the only thing that really works for reducing nitrAtes is to use fast growing plants like hornwort or water wisteria. I've used ammo-lock in the past after medicating a tank. None of the fish seemed to suffer, but that's not really proof that it helped any. ^_^ ![]() |
