CO2 should lower pH, unless my water is Kh high, right?
so if i know "regular" pH, and Kh, can i calculate what's the maximum of CO2 i could have with this kind of data?
if yes, then how to do it?

(btw, i think it's a theoretical question. i have Kh of 6 degrees)

Hi,
IF you know your current pH
AND you know your current KH
THEN you can plot them on this chart:

http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/aqua/art_plant_co2chart.htm

For best plant growth and health, you want to keep
your CO2 saturation within the green shaded areas.

good call, thanks!
now a more specific problem: i added DIY CO2, and registered no pH swing at all (my "natural" level is 6.8). Kh is 6deg. what can ruin the calculations? (my guess is i don't have a "natural" 28ppm CO2 in a bucket)

Hi Fry,
Well the high KH (6) is what is buffering the trend
for the water to go more acidic with the addition of
the CO2.

The normal value for CO2 in water in equlibration
with the air is around 5 mg/l. With water in the
pH range of the 6's I suspect that you have some
excess CO2. If you let the bucket sit, and/or
provide some aeration I suspect that the values
will change as things even out.

In either case, the addition of CO2 can help the plants.

but i had pH of 6.8 without any addition of CO2 into the tank, which means phosphates, i guess. the site clearly indicated that it will change the equation.
