i cannot get my nitrate values above zero in my tank. I bought some chemicals to make my own fertilizer and dose that at 4 drops per gallon because i have a heavy plant load and i use co2. I made a separate nitrate mixture ( 1/2 tbsp in 4 fl. oz. of water) i have been using 8 to 16 drops per gallon for a couple days now and I cannot get my nitrate up. I need to get this up to keep the green water from coming back. has anybody dosed a tank with potassium nitrate before?

All the time. I use greenlight stump remover. it's KNO3 in poweder form. I add 1/2 teaspoon 2X per week. Nitrates are up at 15ppm on my 46 gallon tank. how big is yours?

i have a 20 gallon tank. the powder i have is probably way more powerful than the stump remover because it is just KNO3 in pure form.

so is the stump remover

Greenlight stump remover is pure KNO3. You may want to do 1/4 teaspoon once or twice a week.
