Can excessive phosphates affect the fish? I have discovered the water treatment I used was adding huge ammounts of phosphates to the tank. Have now stopped using it!

It can make algae frow faster...dont know about hurting the fish though.

It's locally produced by one of the aquariums. It's called "one shot". I did a test with Wardley Tri-start and that doesn't add phosphates to the water like the other stuff does so I'm reverting back to it.

You can buy phosphate removal pads/balls that go into your filter media compartment.

Not sure at what levels phospates would be harmul to fish but songbird is correct it will be fine dining for algae and really should be got under control.
