Since both you guys are living in the United States that prides itself with innovations, I would sincerely suggest you get with the program and forget the awkward and error-e system of fishless cycling...

With the bacteria starter products that are on today's market why in the name of good fishkeeping would anybody choose to dose ammonia??

How can you give up the opportunity of adding and enjoying a few fish immediately at startup to the miserable and time-consuming method of ammonia dosing??

I think that fish-less cycles are faster because you add more ammonia every day than fish do. You can put in much larger amounts than any fish (even plecos and oscars) is able to, without the fear of killing fish. Anyways, that's what I think.
