well i am closely monitoring my water parameters right now because of CO2 injection is finally back to work.

so i have noticed that my pH and kh are pretty high up, both are off the chart of my test kits.

tap water -
pH 7.6
kh 180

tank water -
off the chart
off the chart

and chart reads max 7.6ph, 240kh

so i dont know how big of impact did those MTS shells in the tank have on the ph and kh??!!

Hi,
For the shells of MTS to influence the pH and GH of a tank,
the substrate would have to literally be covered, inches
thick in dead snail shells.

You have something else going on in the tank. I assume
that you have already checked the water from the tap after
allowing it to stand for 24 hours? If you have and you
find the pH climbing along with the GH, then we will have
to assume that you have either an active substrate or some
rocks in the tank as ornaments that are carbonate based.
Limestone, dolomite, or something similar will cause that
to occur. If your substrate has aragonite in it, that
will also cause it to happen. Aragonite is frequently used
in saltwater tanks and Rift Fish tanks to maintain high
readings.

Of course the test kit you are using could be out of date.
If you are using strips, they are terrible and very, very,
inaccurate. They are also susceptible to heat, light, and
moisture - any of which will contaminate them so bad that
they could hardly tell an acid from a base.

I suspect that you should tell us a bit more about the
tank, what is in it, and what you are using to arrive at
these figures.

Sincerely,
Frank
