I was wondering if real spring water would be safe in tanks? I don't mean the glorified tap water that comes in jugs from the grocery store but the stuff that comes from out of the ground. Would there be nasties (parisites etc)? Its not something I am planning on doing on a regular basis, but in an emergency. The reason I ask is because 2 winters ago our resivour ran dry (hard to believe) because of a water main break and the town had to pump out of a pond for a week or so so at least we could have water to bathe with. As nasty as showering in pond water was, I would be leery of putting that water in my tank.
The only other source of water we had besides buying it (which I did) was out of a tanker and that was so heavily chlorinated it probibly would have taken a whole bottle of dechlorinator to get it out. As weird as the whole thing sounds, it could happen again even though the time it happened was a fluke.

You recognize that it may carry some nasties. Given that assumption, I would use it only if necessary. I would test the water parameters before using it to see how it varies from my existing water.

Hi,
I suspect that you were also told that if you were going
to use the water for anything other than bathing, that you
had to boil it. A good soup pot holds about 2 gallons
filled with the water, boiled for 5-10 minutes, then
cooled and aeriated would have been fine
(after skimming off the crud that would have formed on
the surface).

As stupid as this sounds, I never thought of boiling it! DOH:%) I guess sometimes the simplest answer...
