My pH currently reads 6.0 on the test (maybe lower!) for my 90 gallon tank. I've tested it multiple times and the readings are the same. I just added this rock that fizzed when I dropped vinegar on it although it was pretty small and I dont think it will have much of an effect. By the way, I get my water from a well. I'm thinking the rain is making the water so acidic.

What would be the best and safest way to raise the pH to around where amazonian fishes like it? (6.5 - 6.8)

When my PH was too low I added crushed coral to the gravel. I added a little at a time so not to shock the fish and to keep from putting too much in and raising the PH too high.

I'd put the crushed coral in a filter bag and place in filter so you can remove it if you want to. Hard to pick it out of the substrate.

I agree with the crushed coral. It looks great in tank. I have also used dolomite in mine.

Are you able to do a test for carbonate hardness? (KH) If KH is low or non existant then your pH will be low and unstable. You should be aiming for around 4 - 6 degrees of KH in your water.
I currently keep african rift lake cichlids who require very hard water with a high pH. I use baking soda to raise the pH. I cant recommend how much you'll need because it depends on your water. If you want to work it out then get a bucket of dechlorinated water and add small measure amounts of baking soda until it reaches a level that is safe.
