Shifting pHs cause stress in the fish as they stive to alter their me Actually, at 7.8 you are probably alright as most of todays fish have been raised in water with pHs in the "7s." The wild caught fish from the African Rifts would be more likly to need the water in the 8s. Getting them there is a simple matter of using a carbonate such as crushed coral, crushed dolomite, or crushed oyster shells as substrate. Or, you can put a handfull of one of the carbonates above into the toe of a panty hose, tie it off, and put it in the output of your filter. What fish are we talking about here? Scientific names would be best if you have them. In general unless you're keeping anything really rare or wild caught as frank said, your pH should be fine for almost any fish. |

What type of Cichlid's do you have?. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |
