i have noticed a large amount of little white worms in the water. they float around and you can see them squirm every once in a while. they dont seem to bother the fish, but i am nervous. they are very thin and about a 1/4" (5mm) long. i used to have plants in the tank and they were killed when i had to treat the tank with a large dose of salt and heat. any ideas what these little worms are and how do i get rid of them without killing the biofilter?

Sounds like planaria. From what i've read on them they're harmless to fish, but show up as a symptom of unclean gravel, or too much fish food and bio-waste in the gravel. A couple gravel vacs should do the trick. Suppsoedly just about every aquarium has them at some point...
